Well I spent many hours on this bird! It was not an easy challenge and I'm glad it's done! I have at least 15 layers of colors in some spots and my pencils got quite a workout. Hope you like it! I'm pretty happy with the way it came out.
We had a horrible storm over the weekend and some friends are still without power in the surrounding towns. We, happily, didn't even loose power. But I was drawing downstairs while my husband had gone to bed, and the loud train noises of the wind made my brilliant german shepherd companion come back downstairs to get me to come upstairs so I would be okay! She seemed to think the pack needed to hunker down together! LOL! I put away my colored pencils and dutifully went upstairs where you could really hear the wind going by like a freight train! I turned on the fan I keep in my room to block out the noise a bit, and after I was safely in bed, and the loud noises were muffled by the fan, she settled down by our feet and went to sleep. Nice to know someone is looking out for you!

Gorgeous colors, beautiful flamingo. I live in Barrington, NH and heard the same train. We lost power for 7 hours. Luckier than some.
Gorgeous piece! Are you using prismacolor? And do you have problems with blooming when you layer so much? (I think that's what it is called!)

Here's what the Prismacolor site says: Colored pencils made with a wax binder produce a nice smooth, creamy laydown. However, artwork done with wax-based colored pencils is susceptible to bloom. Bloom is a thin film that forms a haze over heavily applied colored pencil artwork and darker colors show bloom more prominently than lighter ones. Bloom is very easy to fix. Spraying your completed artwork with Prismacolor Premier Final Fixative (available in a gloss or matte finish) eliminates bloom. It is very important not to spray your artwork before it is completed since you cannot apply additional colored pencil after using this fixative.
This is just spectacular! Man, I knew it was going to be awesome, but the finished piece is head turning. I'm sure the pics don't do the real piece justice.

Oh, this is my favourite so far (I think I say that with every new one you post...but I adore flamingos!). The detail is spectacular, and I like that it's not just the usual 'flamingo standing on one foot' pose! Also, my fiance and I are in 'serious talks' (!) about getting a German Shepherd puppy soon, so this was an especially enjoyable post to read :)
