Raven Bird stage 1

A pink and purple Raven? Sure, why not! I like to start with the lightest colors and highlights, even though most of this will be covered up with layers of other colors. I've just started to go over the edges of the feathers with some purple. This one IS much fun!!!

Yeah, so cool! I love ravens! Curious to see how he will evolve! I always enjoy watching the steps of "art in progress".

I've often wondered how people do such wonderful and skilled work. Reading your work plans it becomes obvious (should have been already), as well as skill its hard work! (even if you do enjoy it). Beautiful pictures through-out your blog!

This is a really good start. It's interesting to put some 'different' colours in to start with then letting them shine through the subsequent layers. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.

I struggle with colors so much and the choices you've made with this one have me a little surprised. Can't wait to see what happens!

We don't have ravens here, but the black male grackles are so amazingly colorful when you look at them. I'm interested that the color shines through when you cover them in other pencil colors. I will definitely follow along.

Yes, we have grackles here also and they are glorious. Raven's only shine different colors in the right sunlight, but in drawing, we can cheat mother nature and create our own colors from our imagination and pretend reflected light. It helps in all black or all white birds. If you notices on my white dove, I added pinks and blues to show reflections, instead of all grays. Grays are boring!
