Drawing a Barn Owl in Colored Pencil

I started this drawing in January, 2018, and it it took me about 50 hours to complete. As usual, I start by drawing in basic details of the animal's parts, and features, then I slowly erase all the graphite pencil as I add my colored pencil. This image shows the very start of the drawing.
50 hours later, I was finally finished. The size is 11 x 14 inches and I drew it on Canson Mi-Tientes paper, with about 60 colors, all types of professional colored pencils, like Luminance, Prismacolor, Caran D'Ache.
I entered it in the Seacoast Artist Association's April 2018 theme show, in Exeter NH, "Feathers and Fur", and I'm proud to say it was selected as "Best in Show".  Here's how it looked after it was framed.
I'll be offering a class called Colored Pencil II which starts May 22, 2018, at the Seacoast Artist Association, See above for details.

MeetUp Plein Aire drawing

I met some new artists last weekend at a MeetUp at Smolak Farms, in Boxfod, MA. I chose this cool rock wall and tree, mostly because it was in the shade! I worked on it for about three hours using Stadler pens, and some Copic gray markers in warm and cool greys. Wish I had even more gra
ys as those rocks were all types of colors, green grays and cool grays. One of these days I will purchase a whole set of grays!

I am also accepting people for private art lessons at Seacoast Artist Association, when I can fit them in. I will be offering 4 regular classes including Learn to Draw I, Intermediate Drawing II, Colored Pencil, and Pastel Painting for Beginners: Flowers, in September and October. Let me know if you are interested! Each class is 3 hours with a shot break, and they run for 5 weeks.

First attempts to use charcoal

I am giving a young student some private lessons and these are the first assignments he turned in, using charcoal. He is so talented! Awesome is not even the best word. This young man is blowing my mind with his natural talent. Can you tell on the skull, which is the photo and which is the drawing?
