Learn to Draw Class starts October 16, 2023

Give yourself or your loved one the gift of Learning to Draw!

Anyone can learn to draw with the tools I will teach you & practice. Learn to break down objects into their basic elements and shapes, see their edges, positive & negative space, & perspective. Blind contour drawing will enhance your understanding of how to draw what you are looking at, in a realistic manner quickly! Learn how to add convincing shading to objects based on light direction and contour, so your drawings won't look flat. Create drawings that you will be proud to share or give as gifts.

Finally finished this charcoal portrait of one of my grandaughters

I've started teaching charcoal drawing classes and with that, I have rediscovered how wonderful they are! I did a Corgi a while back and then it was no stopping me! I like toned paper as it gives me a third color to use within the piece. If you haven't started using charcoal, have a try. They can be messy on your finders, but you can just erase your fingers with your kneaded eraser!

Some new erasers

I got some Blu-tac after I read it's great to erase graphite, even better than a kneaded eraser. I also bought nice fresh white plastic erasers, getting ready to teach my upcoming art classes. I played around on a piece of scrap paper with pencil, charcoal and pastels and found the Blu-tac worked great except for on the pastels. But the nice bright white Stadler eraser cleaned them right off the paper!

I love new art materials! I'm also looking in a new type of paper that seems to be only made in UK called Mellotex. I may have to send for some!

In the news, Seacoastonline.com

My graphite drawing of my son was chosen as "Best in Show" at the Seacoast Artist Association gallery in Exeter, NH. Stop in and see it if you are in the neighborhood! I'm always open for commissions if you'd like a portrait of yourself, you loved one, your pet, you name it, I can probably draw it!

Ulustration Friday post: theme is "new"

This illustration was created in Photoshop, using some scanned images of old woodcuts that I cleaned up and rearranged with my own little "egg" inspiration. Enjoy!
