Flamingo beginning
I thought I'd post the beginning of a drawing I'm working on. I have a friend who loves flamingoes so I thought I would draw one for her. Here's the beginning of the sketch. I wonder why some people call colored pencil drawings, "colored pencil paintings"? Is that because they use the water soluble kind of pencils? Or is it a standard term?
I also saw someone who was drawing on Rising Museum Board, which I never heard of. Then I researched it on Dick Blick and it's a kind of matte board. Anyone like using colored pencil on matte board? How does it handle?
Roughed this in with light pencil, then some pen and ink, the started on the beak, then the myriad feathers, and we're taking BIG feathers! I'll post it again tomorrow if I get some more done on it. I work in layers, putting in the lightest colors, or over coloring light pinks with whites to make them smoother, or using lighter or darker colors for pullling out the details. Kind of a modge podge of techniques. Whatever works! Enjoy!

Carolina Wren Bird
This is the State Bird of South Carolina, drawn special for my brother who lives down there and is starting a new business. Hopefully he'll be able to sell some prints from his store! This was really difficult to draw because of all the detail on the face. Should have drawn him just a bit larger! Enjoy!

Bird Video
Someone in my group posted the link to this awesome video of birds on a wire. Copy and paste this url and have an awe inspiring time watching their acrobatics! http://vimeo.com/3013257
Yellow Throated Warbler Bird
I drew this little guy last night. And this morning I finally got the Prismacolor pencils I ordered way back!!! I don't like the new box. The colors are in no particular order and you have to spread out all three flimsy plastic trays to see all the colors. Time for a nice new huge pencil holder!

Male Yellow Warbler
Finally receive my Faber Castell Polychromos from Dick Blick but still have not received my Prismacolors. Have they gone out of business or what? Dick blick contacted the factory and supposedly they went out directly from there. Where they are now, I do not know!
But I enjoyed working with the Polychromos, thought they are missing quiet a few colors in this set so I used a few prismacolors on this also. Hope you enjoy my little guy. I feel I'm getting more confident in these little heads, beaks and such, the more I draw them.
