Snowy Owl stage 1
Okay, so my eyes were going buggy trying to keep the shapes of these feathers in the correct order and I'm sure i'll have some erasing to do. But I love a challenge!

Spotted Dove Bird finally finished!
It took a while but she's finished and I'm happy with the way she turned out. I hope you all enjoy her classy shawl of back and white freathers!
As I said in my earlier post, leave a comment here, and in one week, I will pick one name out of a hat and send you an 8x10 giclee of your choice, from all the birds and critters I have drawn since January, this one making 25 total! I'm very proud of myself if I do say so myself!.
But I'm not going to stop here, I still have 75 to go this year and next up is a Baltimore Oriole! Orange is my favorite color this year, so this one will be extra fun. Have a great week!

Giclee give-away!
Once I finish this spotted dove, I will post the image and ask for comments. Then after a week, I'll put everyones name in a hat and pull one out to receive an 8 x 10 giclee of your favorite bird, mouse, squirrel, or rabbit. It will be the 25th drawing I have made since the beginning of the year.
Just to refresh your memory, this is all I could do to draw birds when I started, and before I really sat down to look at them and practice, practice, practice. So never say never! Just keep practicing! I'm just not one of those people who can draw from memory... obviously! It's been a mind altering experience.

Dove- Lucy on the porch
Here's Lucy!!! sounds like the name of a show! This is the first drawing I have done of these birds without using the pen and ink. I'd love lots of feedback as to whether you prefer them with the pen and ink. Thanks!

Red Squirrel Finished!
Well I decided he needed something to sit on, so I just gave him a part of a tree, instead of the entire thing. That will have to do. Drawing bark is HARD!!!! I think that should be one of our exercises. I think I will suggest it. Every crook and cranny is different and has such a multitude of colors! I'm very happy with the way he came out! I'm excited to go on to my next challenge. My niece has suggested an owl and I think that might be the next one. We'll see!

Red Squirrel rough
I saw this little red squirrel climbing up a tree in the back yard as I went around with my camera snapping anything that was blooming! It was so cute, I decided to draw it. This is still in the rough state and I want to add more color and depth to it. Can't decide if I want to draw the tree he was perched on it or not. I'll decide tonight!
Red Bellied Woodpecker
I finally got around to finishing up this woodpecker. It was a funny thing. After I colored him in, I started on the tree trunk and the more I added, the more he disappeared. Then it came to me...all those stripes really do make for a great camouflage, though I hadn't been aware of it.
Most of the time I've seen pictures of them hanging upsidedown at a feeder or hanging sideways off a tree, where they are very noticeable. Once on the tree front on, I've probably walked by them without noticing them many times if they weren't "knocking" on wood" !!! LOL!

Robin is finished!
I had fun with this Robin. It's probably the first bird I was able to identify when I was a child, and learned that when the Robins appeared, Spring was surely on its way! As all of my other recent drawing, this was done with pen and ink and colored pencils. I just got a new brand that I tried on this one, Caran d"Arche I think they are called and they are heavenly smooth and easy to work with. I may have to get more. I started with 30 (you can buy them cheaper one by one on Dick Blick, than in a set!), so now I'll have to get more! I'm hooked! I also draw these on recycled paper, though I did order some Canson papers of various colors. I'll be getting into them when I finish up this batch of recycled paper. I love the little fibers in it and it's very smooth. If anyone has a link to some other similar, heavier recycled papers with the same little fibers (I'm not talking thick homemade paper. It has to take colored pencil), let me know. I'd appreciate it! Happy Spring!

Robin rough 2
This little Robin is looking more like a Robin I think. Added more layers of color and pen and ink. Enjoy! And don't forget to sign up for my Facebook Fan page at http://tinyurl.com/yhsuqad! I need all the support I can get. I'm going to contact the Audubon society here in Newburyport, MA, and see if they will sell some of my work in their gift shop! Anyone know anyone at the actual Audubon Society? I've got to check out a recent magazine and see who to contact to see if I can get some published in one of their magazines. I wonder if they have one for kids also???
